Local roots with global impact
For generations, Black dancers in Chicago have innovated, developed and combined forces of dance and music styles tied to the city's rhythms and energy.
The Era Footwork Collective simultaneously honors these roots and pushes the boundaries of the footwork form.
Through international touring, global collaborations, brand partnerships, music releases, and regular projects based at home in Chicago, The Era's spin on footwork continues to develop and expand. By training and mentoring young dancers, and offering performers opportunities to battle, earn money, and gain credibility in the footwork community, The Era is ushering inviting new generations of footwork artists to find and establish their place on the world's stages.
Your support funds ambitious footwork projects and programs that ensure footwork is a thriving and sustainable art form for decades to come.
Because Footwork Saves Lives
“Dancers are mainly given the role to play support to larger performers and entities. Far too often, they're viewed as just bodies and not artists themselves. Overall, The Era has used every opportunity we've had to help highlight our image as more than background dancers or bodies but rather as dance artists who excel in multiple lanes including music, art, and education as well.
Dancing means being able to express yourself through physical movement when words just aren’t enough — an unspoken language to many but also a vessel of expression when the world doesn’t always permit or accept one’s self-expression.”
